Bright, citrusy, and refreshing, the Paloma Cocktail is an iconic Mexican drink that's perfect for warm evenings, garden parties, or spontaneous get-togethers. There’s always a place for vibrant drinks at a Mexican-style celebration. The Paloma cocktail exemplifies this: it's refreshing, tangy, and just a touch bold. Traditionally made with grapefruit soda, this modern twist utilizes fresh juice and sparkling water for a more natural flavor.

This recipe comes from my new cookbook, Fiesta Lenta, which is set to release this June. Pre-orders will be available soon!

No tequila? No problem! The mocktail version is equally bright and refreshing.

Ingredients:

  • 45 ml tequila

  • 60 ml freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice

  • 10 ml freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 80 ml soda (Sprite, tonic, or sparkling water)

  • Salt for rimming the glass

  • Ice

  • Garnish: a wedge of grapefruit and a sprig of rosemary

How to Make the Perfect Paloma Cocktail:

  1. Begin by rubbing a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Dip the rim into salt.

Tip: Roll your lime on a cutting board before juicing. This will help extract more juice.

  2. Next, add a handful of ice cubes into your glass.

  3. Pour in the grapefruit juice, lime juice, and tequila. Stir gently, then strain into a clean glass.

  4. Finally, add soda, and garnish with a grapefruit wedge and a sprig of rosemary.

Pro Tip: Gently crush the rosemary sprig before adding it to the drink to enhance the aroma.

Serving Ideas:

  • Serve in a short glass with chunky ice and a salted rim.

  • Pair with grilled shrimp or tacos for the perfect meal.

  • For summer gatherings, prepare a large pitcher by scaling up the recipe!
